10 Halloween Idioms

Hi everyone, Hype Think Educationရဲ့ Knowledge sharing sessionကနေ ပြန်လည်ကြိုဆိုပါတယ််။

ဒီနေ့မှာတော့ Halloweenရက်မို့ Halloweenနဲ့ ပတ်သတ်တဲ့ Idiomတစ်ချို့ကို example sentence လေးတွေနဲ့တကွ အတူတူလေ့လာလို့ရအောင် မျှဝေပေးလိုက်ပါတယ်။

October 31 ရက်နေ့က Halloweenနေ့ဖြစ်ပြီး အာရှနိုင်ငံတွေမှာကျင်းပကြတာနည်းပေမယ့် အနောက်နိုင်ငံတွေမှာတော့ Christmasပြီးရင် အစည်ကားဆုံးကျင်းပကြတဲ့ပွဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Halloweenကတော့ သရဲတစ္ဆေပုံ၊စုန်းမပုံအစရှိသဖြင့် ကြောက်စရာကောင်းတဲ့ costumeတွေ၊ ဇာတ်ကားတွေထဲက character costumeတွေအစရှိသဖြင့် ထူးခြားခြောက်ခြားစရာ ဝတ်စားဆင်ယင်မှုတွေ၊ ပြင်ဆင်ပုံတွေကြောင့် တစ်စတစ်စ လူစိတ်ဝင်စားလာပြီး နာမည်ကြီးတဲ့ ပွဲတော်တစ်ခု ဖြစ်လာတာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

အခု Halloweenအကြောင်းအနည်းငယ်ရှင်းပြပြီးသွားပြီဆိုတော့ Halloweenနဲ့ ပတ်သတ်တဲ့ Idiomလေးတွေကို အတူတူလေ့လာကြရအောင်

1) Scared stiff / scared to death 

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကို ရိုးရိုးကြောက်တာမဟုတ်ဘဲ ခြေလက်တွေ မလှုပ်ရှားနိုင်လောက်အောင်ကြောက်တယ်လို့ ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါ ဒီ idiom လေးကိုသုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။

Eg. I am scared stiff / scared to death whenever I see snakes.

2) To Stab someone in the back 

တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်၏ နောက်ကျောကို ဓားနဲ့ထိုးတယ်၊ သစ္စာဖောက်တယ်လို့ ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါသုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။

Eg. I didn’t expect my best friend to stab me in the back.

3) Dig Your own grave 

မြန်မာစကားပြောမှာလည်းရှိပါတယ် “ကိုယ့်သေတွင်းကိုယ်တူးတာ”ဆိုပြီး တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကို ကိုယ့်အတွက်မကောင်းမှန်းသိရက်နှင့် လုပ်မိတာကို ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါသုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။

Eg. Although the examination is drawing near, using social media all the time rather than studying is digging your own grave.

4) Give up the ghost

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကအလုပ်မလုပ်တော့ဖူး၊ အားကုန်သွားတယ်လို့ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါမှာသုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။

Eg. After attending zoom class for 5 hours, my laptop finally gave up the ghost.

5) Scaredy Cat

တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ကို လွယ်လွယ်နဲ့ တအားကြောက်တတ်တဲ့သူလို့ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါ ဒီ idiom လေးကိုသုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။

Eg. Mary is a really scaredy cat. She can’t go into the haunted house even  with her friends .

6) Pale as a ghost

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကိုကြောက်လန့်တာကြောင့် (သို့မဟုတ်) အံ့ဩထိန့်လန့်စရာအခြေအနေတစ်ခုကြောင့် မျက်နှာကဖြူဖက်ဖြူလျော်ဖြစ်သွားတယ်လို့ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါ သုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။

Eg. Peter turned as pale as a ghost when he heard about the serious murder. 

7) Witching hour

ညသန်းခေါင်၊ညဉ့်နက်တဲ့အချိန်ကို ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါသုံးပါတယ်။

Eg. Last night, we watched the movies till the witching hour.

8) Like a bat out of hell

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကိုဆောင်ရွက်တဲ့အခါ တအားမြန်တယ်လို့ ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါသုံးပါတယ်။

Eg. Peter was driving like a bat out of hell since he’s late for school.

9) Not a cat in hell’s chance

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကိုအောင်မြင်ဖို့ မဖြစ်နိုင်ဖူးလို့ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါမှာ အသုံးပြုနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Eg. You couldn’t get a cat in hell’s chance ,if you don’t study hard to achieve the first prize 

10) Drop Dead Gorgeous 

တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်က အလွန်အမင်းလှပတယ်၊ ဆွဲဆောင်မှုရှိတယ်လို့ ပြောချင်တဲ့အခါမှာသုံးပါတယ်။

Eg. Look at the girl in white dress! She’s absolutely drop dead gorgeous!

ဒီနေ့မှာတော့ Halloweenနဲ့ ပတ်သတ်တဲ့ အသုံးဝင်မယ့် Idiom 10လုံးတောင်ပြောပြခဲ့တာမို့ အားလုံးတူတူလေ့လာခဲ့ကြပြီး ဘယ်လိုအသုံးပြုလို့ရမလဲဆိုတာတွေ အဓိပ္ပါယ်နှင့်တကွသိရှိသွားကြမယ်လို့ ယုံကြည်ပါတယ်။
